Cumann Rince Naisiunta has grown rapidly in the South Leinster region since it was initiated in Wexford in 1983. It has flourished from its humble beginnings to become the growing force that it is today.
The first regional championships organised by Brian Cleary and Catherine MC Caffrey were held in 1985 in New Ross, Co Wexford. They were both consumed with a determination to expand CRN and all its ideals in the region at this initial stage. Our very dear and special friend Ita Cadwell travelled to the region on many occasions and imparted her wealth of knowledge and expertise by providing workshops to teachers who
were interested in CRN and it's ethos.
Progression was rapid and the open platform facility resulted in high numbers of new interested teachers from all over the South eastern area participating at events. Wexford academy joined the ranks in 1988, and with the introduction of further Wexford, Wicklow and Welsh teachers our region has enjoyed further expansion and growth.
The region was honoured to host the Irish Open Championships in Enniscorthy in 1998 in conjunction with the 1798 commemoration celebrations and more recently the World
Championships on two occasions in the prestigious Wexford Opera House.
Yes we have come a long way from our humble beginnings! We currently have 34
members in our region bringing a wealth of energy, motivation and vitality into our branch ‘Our future is in safe hands...’
